This is within the scenic drive that circles the rugged mountains including Mount Locke, Mount Livermore, Sawtooth Mountain, etc. We have shot lots of animals [with a camera or cam corder] and they have all survived in the area commonly known as the Davis Mountain Resort. Mountain tops 55 miles away can be identified from this location on a clear day. Vhf radio [2 meters] can communicate with Big Bend Basin Headquarters to the south; Carlsbad to the North West, and Odessa to the North East.

above the clouds The altitude is 7000 feet and many times you are above the clouds during Temperature Inversions and other weather conditions. To our knowledge; this location is the highest altitude residence in Texas. The temperature is constantly 10 degrees cooler than the conditions that we experience in Odessa, Texas whether day or nite; summer or winter. Electric Utilities are available; but no gas, water, or phone. We salvage water from the roof to a storage tank for household use. It is necessary to haul our own drinking water and butane for heating. Rain fall thru July of 1997 was over 10 inches and at that rate could reach 18 or 20 inches by the end of the year.

unhappy deer These animal photographs were taken thru the living room window at very close range. The Fox, Ring Tail Cat, Chapparal, Crazy Quail, skunk, and Turkeys that have visited us haven't been photographed. We will attempt to acquire their likeness from other photographers efforts. It is very interesting to observe the characteristics of the animals thru out the life cycle of the families. Many of the deer will enter the yard area while we sit in the shade of the house reading a book. They drink, eat, or graze as long as we sit quietly. Why do the animals frequent our territory? We maintain a 300 gallon water tank for drinking purposes from the run off from the water supply 365 days out of the year. The animals use more water than we do.
