GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
invites you to attend our first meeting
of 2006 to “kick off the New Year”!
January 23rd – 6:00
P.M.
(Note: TIME
CHANGE for this meeting only)
Lincoln Towers Retirement Residence (in the Ballroom)
311 West 4th, Odessa, TX
Our speaker will be
Ross J. Cox, Sr. from San Saba, Texas,
who has written The Texas Rangers & The San
Saba Mob,
a book about one of the darkest chapters of Hill Country history
during which the “San Saba Mob” reigned.
The Mob started as a response to general
lawlessness after the Civil War,
but grew into a shadowy sub-government characterized by intimidation and
murder, operating for nearly thirty years in parts of five Central Texas
counties.
Because no formal records were kept
(many “good” families had Mob ties and all members were sworn to secrecy
and knew their lives depended on their silence),
the story of the Mob has been mostly whispered rumors for most of the
twentieth century.
Now Highway Patrolman
Ross J. Cox, Sr.
has put together a compelling account of the terrorists who ruled San
Saba and surrounding counties from some time around May of 1878 until
May of 1898, when a murder conviction signaled the beginning of the end
of Mob rule.
Please
bring a friend and join us for a very interesting evening.
Refreshments will be available.

Rangers & The San Saba Mob - Vol. I & II,
